Ducks prefer to stay in water rather than on land and often forage in larger groups to protect themselves from birds of prey. These birds are equipped for all temperatures and always ensure that their feathers are well greased and therefore water-repellent. There is an insulating down layer underneath. This means that these omnivores can find food in every season. To make feeding easier, many ducks have specialized beaks with grooves or filters called lamellae. Ducks nest near the banks and like to hide in the bushes.
Fun fact: Only female ducks quack.
