Mustangs are also called “mestengos”. The Spanish word means like this a lot like “stray”. They are domestic horses that the Spanish introduced in the 16th century. In the 19th century they were brought to America by ship and escaped there. There they found plenty of food on the fertile pastures and beyond that Puma had hardly any natural enemies, they reproduced very quickly. Even today, mustangs roam wild across the country. They are led by a courageous leading stallion who leads his herd protected and usually also the father of all foals.
